The month of MAY is Missing Children's Month in Canada. IndieCan Radio and Meg-A-Music Toronto celebrated their 2nd birthday May 15, 2008.
The TATTOO Rock Parlour was the place to be on May 15th 2008 as The Joys, Sam Hell, Sarah Burton, Andre Skinner and Little Sunday entertained us with a night of great Canadian indie.
Meg-A-Music and IndieCan dedicated the night to Missing Children. We asked you to help raise money and awareness for the Missing Childrens Society of Canada byraffling off great prizes all night long. You had to be there to win so plan to be with us next time. This is a shout out to all bands, fans, or anyone with a web presence.
Think of how many people we can reach together. Looking out for kids is every ones business. Help yourself to this logo and link it to http://www.mcsc.ca/ for the month of May. IndieCan cares and we need your help too. Thanks so much.

TORONTO, January 24, 2008 - Concerts for a Cause (CFAC), a non-profit organization dedicated to organizing concerts for charity, had its kick-off show at the El Mocambo on January 24. The concert featured Ketch Harbour Wolves, Sadie May Crash (pictured left) The Miles, Howl, and The Avenue.
CFAC has its roots in Vancouver, and is now making a mark in Toronto. Founder Andrew Rusk reflects on his charity: "Concerts for a Cause is a great way for bands to get publicity, charities to get revenue, and everybody to have an amazing night of independent music."
A cornucopia of independent music, the concert ran from 8 to 12, and featured the Atlantic Folk inspired Ketch Harbour Wolves to the heavy rock punk-inspired Sadie May Crash.

The show raised over $500 for Journalists Human Rights. After the show, Andrew Rusk (pictured right) Outreach Coordinator for Journalists for Human Rights commented: "It looks as though everyone had a great time and the event went down without any visible hitches."
Concerts for a Cause plans to organize concerts monthly in Toronto.

Shawn Phelps and Thanou Thirakul are the co-founders of the Toronto Songwriters Festival which is devoted to celebrating great local songwriters and raising money for JAI DEE (Good Heart) Childrens Fund. Thanou, born in Laos, is also the treasurer for Jai Dee.
IndieCan has always been proud of the way artists are quick to help those less fortunate than themselves and we are honoured to be involved in a small way with this event. October 13th and 14th of 2007 were the magic days in question. Plan to attend next year by bookmarking the Songwriters Festival site. Listen in to aritst Joshua Bartholomew IndieCan Episode 62 guest and co-founders Shawn and Thachattin (Episode 60) discussing the event. CLICK HERE. |
